Meccano is a brand that I grew up around, it’s tiny nuts and bolts were not for the fainthearted. Now I am a mother to a 13 year old who is crazy about construction, mainly with bricks, but I thought that Meccano could be a new challenge for him, something new and completely different.
This Meccano Maker System Ducati Monster 1200s turned up, with an age guide of 10 years plus, I wondered if it would be too hard for Jordan as it the model looks so intricate. Opening up the box I was confronted with bags and bags of the smallest nuts and bolts and components, personally this scared me but my 13 year old was in awe and excited at the prospect.
Included in the box is 292 pieces, tools, instructions and even stickers for the finishing touches.
The instructions book is 23 pages long, and each page clearly shows which pieces you need, and has a real life scale for you to match up the appropriate parts so you can get it right first time.
Now I am not going to lie, this model isn’t for the fainthearted, it is not a walk in the park, it involves dedication of time (an hour and half, possibly even 2 hours in our case) but it really shows that your hard work pays off as the end result is amazing! This set would even be suitable for an adult Ducati lover too.
We are delighted with the set, it is durable, well built and the pieces are of great quality that I know it will stay together pride of place on our shelves. Jordan especially loves the finer details, coil-spring suspension on the back and real steering when you turn the handlebars.
Well done Meccano for creating something awesome!
