A few weeks ago we made a special Saturday trip around the M25 to RSPB Rainham Marshes. If you haven’t been to Rainham Marshes and you are keen on getting a breathe of fresh air, get on down there as it’s just lovely.
Our reason for the visit was to meet the lovely Hattie Garlick, author to the new RSPB book ‘Born To Be Wild’.
With a whopping 256 pages, this book is filled with hundreds of activities that every family can do. With activities for all different seasons, the great thing about this book is that you don’t have to be an amazing outdoor guru, you can be a total ‘townie’ and be able to complete the activities. There is activities such as making ‘Easter Trees’ which we had a good go at!
Another of my favourites is the Woodlouse Maze! What a fab idea hey?
The activities are all FREE as well, no big spending needed, just a few extra bits and bobs you probably have lying about the house. Some of the activities are really simple, but that’s great to give you a starting point, it’s amazing how when you are set out to do one activity it can turn into a whole day as you end up finding so much fun in just the simple stuff.
Hattie was an absolute doll, her down to earth relaxed hands on approach is clear to see, she understands kids, she understands that kids have their own ideas and might do things different, and you know what, that’s OK, because they are having fun and engaging in the topic. She is the PERFECT author for this book, and my 6 year old Mark, and my 11 year old Brooke both love going through the book and picking activities that we can do together. It is the perfect book to get everyone outside a little bit more and having oodles of fun.
You can buy Hattie Garlicks ‘Born To Be Wild’ from here. I think it could be your best buy yet!
