Just a few weeks ago, I was invited to the baby show to see what Fisher Price had in store for little people. Fisher Price is a brand I have grown up with, and is a brand I trust implicitly with my babies. From their first bouncy chair right through to toys, the quality has never let me down.
Entering the room, Emma had a blast playing with the range of Laugh and Learn toys which are now available, her favourite was the Cookie Jar, which I have managed to track down in pink!
We were treated to a presentation where we heard that Fisher Price has searched deeper into the play aspect, rather than just letting babies get on with it, they actually conducted CHILDWISE Research. Fisher-Price commissioned 1515 UK mums and found that despite the increase in smart technology, 2 in 3 believed that toys that encourage fun and laughter are the best ones for a child’s learning and development. It found that on average babies and toddlers spend an average of 3 hours and 25 minutes a day playing with toys.
Surprisingly in today’s smart phone and tablet obsessed society only 1% of mums favoured those over other toys, whilst a third of mums ranked books highest for aiding development. Over three quarters of mums surveyed said that their child smiled and laughed more with toys than technology and 82% put fun and learning as their top priority when choosing toys.
Kathleen Alfarno, Ph.D Director of Child Research at Fisher-Price, says “Laughter is a powerful, readily available way to boost mood and psychological wellbeing. Just think about how great you feel as an adult when you participate in something you really enjoy. That’s what play is all about for babies and toddlers. It’s about having fun. When babies play, they have fun; when babies have fun, they laugh. That’s what makes play worthwhile. In fact, they are having so much fun they don’t even realise they are learning.”
And it’s true, Emma learns more when she is laughing. She absolutely adores Fisher Price toys, and the Laugh and Learn Puppy we were gave at the presentation represents this brilliantly! Full review coming shortly…..
