>Spring is almost upon us, so this weekend I have been attacking the dreaded overgrown garden. We moved in this new build house 4 years ago and the front garden was already landscaped for us, however the back garden was left naked, a blank canvas some might say. But back then I was a single working mummy who had no time for gardening, so I had a gardener lay turf and decking. All I done was buy some patio furniture and a few toys for the children. That was it, no flowers, nothing.
Over the past few years I have found a new love for flowers and each summer I take delight in potting plants and baskets and watching them flourish. I do have to admit though, I am a novice and potting a plant is my limit when it comes to the garden!
So this weekend I have decided to tackle the overgrown shrubbery that was not only plaguing my life, but my neighbours too. I started off with a pair of hedge cutters and realised I wasn’t getting anywhere fast, more drastic action was needed! So I called in back-up in the shape of my husband. He decided that the shrub in fact needed to be removed, so he delicately grabbed it and tugged until the whole bush was free of soil….leaving a rather large gap in my garden!!
In the back garden I have the same decking that was put down 4 years ago, I will openly admit that I have never treated it and it is looking a bit sorry for itself, so the plan is to sand it down and get it stained. As well as replace a few planks which have not stood the test of time. Once that is complete I am thinking that some gorgeous rattan garden furniture would look gorgeous in my garden. We currently have an old battered wooden set which has been neglected badly, so its important for me that I find some all weather furniture that will require little maintenance when we have such busy lives.
I can’t wait to have my garden looking lovely this spring and summer, I am determined it will be an extension of our living space and will get used daily by the whole family. Bring on the sun!
