Stu was born in the 70’s, so when he was a child in the 80’s the Rubik’s cube was the big craze! It is the worlds top selling puzzle! More than 350 million Rubik’s Cubes have been sold worldwide!!
So what is a Rubik’s cube?
If you have lived a very sheltered life and have managed to avoid knowing of the Rubik’s Cube then you will be wondering what it is and how it works! The Rubik’s cube has 6 different coloured faces which is covered with nine different stickered smaller cubes that make up each face. The idea is that you can twist and turn each part to try and complete puzzle so that all faces have the same colour! Sounds easy doesnt it? well it isn’t!
My husband was adamant that he could complete the Rubik’s cube within a couple of minutes back in the day, so I thought this would be a great chance for him to prove his skills. He loved the new packaging that the Rubik’s Cube came in. It has its own little stand which has taken pride of place in our living room. The packaging is also enviromentally friendly which is great to know.
We recieved the Rubik’s Cube on Saturday, so that was 3 days ago, and he has managed to complete some of it, but he is adamant its because he is out of practise and that he will be able to do it with more practise time…
The Rubik’s Cube would make a great gift to someone who was a child of the 80’s, it has brough back many memories for my husband, I think he feels he is a teenager again. This is a puzzle that anyone and everyone would want a go at.I love the fact that it isn’t simple, its a real challenge! I am also quite excited about letting my 8 year old have a play with when his daddy has put it down, but at the moment no one is allowed to touch it for fear of messing up the solving of the puzzle.
PS. The world record for completing a Rubik’s Cube was set on May 2011 at the Melbourne Summer Open competition in Australia by Feliks Zemdegs with a completion time of just 6.24 seconds!!! I think the hubby has his work cut out…..
The new revived Rubik’s Cube is available now with a RRP of £12.99.
