As someone who is embracing a new healthier lifestyle, my first choice of drink is always something with as little sugar as possible, but still something that is tasty. It can be hard to know what to drink, there is so much choice out there and many have hidden sugar inside. So when my emails pinged with news from Coca-Cola, I was excited to share the contents with you…
As a Coca-Cola lover, someone who has been bought up with the iconic drink, I adore the fizzy treat. When I was pregnant I craved cans of Coca-Cola, and when I had my baby I slimmed down with the help of the fizzy goodness of Diet Coke. It is a different taste, but it’s still really lovely, even more so that I can drink it with no guilt. Then when Coke Zero was released, it made me happy that there was even more choice. Anyone who buys soft drinks will know that Coca-Cola are very clear with their packaging, they show on every bottle or can what exactly is inside, how much sugar, calories etc. This is all part of a bigger pledge by Coca-Cola. They are supporting the Department of Health’s Public Health Responsibility Deal through a range of pledges relating to physical activity, responsible drinking and more. This is made up of the following:
• Provide consumers with a wide range of soft drinks including low- and no-calorie options
• Help people to make informed choices about the drinks they choose
• Encourage active lifestyles.
Coca-Cola have been working hard to reduce the sugar but not the taste, on many of their drinks. This includes more than just Coca-Cola and the introduction of the yummy Coca-Cola Life, this also includes Lilt, which has had a calorie and sugar reduction by a whopping 55%! Dr Pepper, Sprite and Fanta are reduced by 30%, yet they all have the same great taste. Can only be a good thing, right? I love that there is choice of Zero, no calorie and low calorie options, options that can help those us trying to keep the sugar levels low. Awesome hey?

I have to admit I’m a bit sceptical about drinks with artificial sweeteners. I don’t think (like some do) that they’re at all dangerous but they don’t change habits. We don’t need massively sweet drinks all the time. What’s wrong with water? Unless you really change habits, you don’t really change diets.
