Last year was the start of my dieting journey, I had decided that enough was enough and I needed to lose weight. I wasn’t myself, I needed an overhaul and decided that CWP was the way forward for me. I lost 2 stone, but it was hard…and maybe just not for me. I like food, I like eating…and CWP is about meal replacements to get the weight loss, and although the shakes were delicious (still using them now as protein shakes) I wanted to do exercise, tone up and ultimately get fit. For that I needed fuel for my body, so I have been cutting out the crap, drinking more water and being active every single day. I have joined the gym, joined weekly zumba, joined bootcamp every sunday and am walking as much as I possibly can in between. But something still wasn’t right, I was gaining weight, not losing it…
That’s when I decided that maybe what I thought was a healthy diet, wasn’t that healthy after all? I decided I would try Slimming World. I have a fair few friends on social media sites who follow it with massive results, so surely it has to be good for one of my amazing friends to lose over 7 stone. Looking at the plan, I couldn’t believe you could eat pasta, potatoes and bread and still lose weight. It had taken me a good few days to get my head round a new way of eating though, the system, the healthy extras and the syns too. For the past five days I have been on it 100%. I am still doing my exercise, I have been blitzing the FitBit each day…and I am hoping (possibly praying) that it works…and the scales starts to go the right way!
I like that it isn’t a regimented way of eating, I don’t have a set menu with quantity sizes and portions to weigh out. There is free foods which you can have as much as like, then you pick some a healthy extra A, and a healthy extra B each day, then you syn everything else you eat. It’s all about food optimising, and I love being in control of what I want. I noticed very quickly that my usual favourite quick meals were all syn heavy, even a tortilla wrap has around 9 syns in one, I would easily eat four, and that’s not including the sauce and extra stuff! But I have found some wraps that are 4 syns per one, so I can still enjoy my fajitas, but in moderation. The same goes for all my other favourite meals, I am now cooking from scratch and have created some amazing things this week, and all are either syn free or very very low in syns, and I love it! I feel like I have accomplished getting in control, I have accomplished cooking healthy meals from scratch, and that is more than I ever thought I could achieve so easily.
I won’t lie, there is still times I want to dive head first into a box of chocolates, and I find mornings for me is the hardest. I wake up wanting naughty food, all those mornings of stuffing snickers for breakfast have taken their toll….but I find if I just make something syn free, as soon as that first mouthful enters my mouth I am fine, I feel empowered, in control and I realise that it is delicious to be syn free, in so many ways! I honestly feel revitalised, I feel energetic and positive, I don’t feel I am on a ‘diet’, I despise that word, instead I am starting the beginning of a healthier lifestyle.
Let’s just hope the scales agree…..
