Emma is now 6 months old, and according to the ‘Official recommendation’, she can now sleep in a separate room. The prospect seemed more scary with Marky, and I remember trying to sneak into his room and sleep on the bedroom floor beside his cot.
However this time round I am getting signs that Emma needs her own space. She gets disturbed by me crawling into bed at the stupid time I go to bed, and if hubby is sleeping in bed his super loud snoring wakes Emma at least a few times in the night (along with me, but that’s another story). Then the idea of TV in bed is actually out of the question, as it would disturb her. Even bedtime chit chat is banned between me and Mr P, with me telling him off for daring to speak in fear of waking the baby.
In my experience Marky also slept better in his own room, and I am sure Emma will too, but part of me does feel sad that she is moving out, my last baby is moving out of my room. I like being close to her, I like seeing her smiles in the morning, peering out at me, sometimes even giggling when I manage to prise open one of my eyes at 6am…
I suppose I could always crash on her bedroom floor…..
I wish I could claim I followed the recommendations but my son outgrew his crib at 4 weeks old and his cotbed wouldn’t fit in our room. With his snoring (yes really) and my husbands though I needed the break.
