Marky is a massive Gruffalo fan, and he knows the words off by heart to the books and the DVDs. But it is always lovely to see Gruffalo merchandise with the cute illustrations that we have all fallen in love with.

When I was asked if we would like to review a Hide and Seek Mini Game, I was keen to see what Marky would make of it, and it would help with his learning and development.

The box is quite small, about 5 inches x 8 inches in size. Perfect for popping in your bag when you go to friends houses who don’t have toys around.

Opening up the box was the following contents:

There is 4 mouse playing pieces, a game board which folds up rather neatly but is still thick and rigid, 7 hiding tokens with the different Gruffalo characters on, 18 character cards (again with different favourite Gruffalo characters on including snake, fox, owl, frog and squirrel) a spinner (great alternative to a dice as with limited space a dice can get lost of even fly off the table). And most importantly, rules leaflet which tells you how to play the game.

To play the game you simply pop the 7 hiding tokens on the markers on the board, upside down. Each player then gets 3 of the character cards dealt to them.

You then place your desired mouse piece on the start spot. Then spin the spinner! You move the amount of spaces it says, you then follow the instructions of what each space does. If you land on a space with a character token then you have to pick it up without anyone else seeing and remember which character it is. This is because when you get to the finish you have to guess where each character is and the location of the Gruffalo!

Marky is nearly 3, and although he found the concept a little too hard for him, he had great fun counting his piece out on the places and uncovering the characters. His older brother and sister who are 8 and 10 got it straight away and had loads of fun.

I love that this all packs away neatly in the small box. It provides play factor without the need for masses of space. In fact, next time we go out for dinner I may pop this in my bag too!
