Many parents use their first pregnancy as a time to cherish their time together before life changes completely, in a wonderful way, but in a way that means less time as a couple. It is also a time when many couples take a “babymoon”.

This is a holiday away for the couple exclusively. A time when they can do the things that will be impossible with a newborn.

Being pregnant may change the way you do a few things, but doesn’t have to change the way you enjoy your trip.

Below are a few of the ways that you can make sure that you have a happy and safe trip, without compromising your fun.

  • Avoid long car journeys during the first trimester. Although it is hormonal changes which cause the sickness, motion can exasperate the feelings and can leave you instead feeling the need to pull over or grab a bucket! Try picking a destination where most things are in walking distance, try going on day trip which isn’t too far and try plane or train travel as opposed to car during the first three months. And if you do fancy going somewhere remote and along winding roads, just wait until the nausea has passed. But if you do end up choosing a car journey, just be grateful you don’t have complicated car seats to fit yet!
  • Plan plane journeys plenty of time ahead of your due date. Airplane policies vary slightly when it comes to how far into your pregnancy they’ll let you fly, however, don’t leave it too close for your own sanity too! Who wants to be hundreds of miles from a hospital and above the clouds when they feel the first twinge of a contraction?
  • Let yourself be pampered! One of the best areas to go when you’re pregnant if the Mediterranean. The people over there tend to be the kindest and sweetest to pregnant ladies. Even if you cringe at home when you’re treated differently, on holiday it is an excuse to lap it up! Another thing you can do is to have some treatments while you’re there, after all your body is preparing for one of the hardest things its ever done, you deserve some TLC!
