Have a SaversSummer! Free Kids workshops

School time is almost upon us, yet we still have to endure just a few more days holiday. At this point I will freely admit my kids are bored. They are fed up of looking at my face and I will be rather honest and say I might actually smile once I drop them off at school…but until then we have days to fill and try and make fun for us all.

I decided to do some easy baking with the kids, now my kids don’t have a massive amount of patience, and with a 2 year old, 7 year old and 9 year old (who has autism and adhd) I need something quick and easy. I found a recipe on the Morrisons SaversSummer website which included chocolate, so I knew it would go down well with my choccy-loving kiddies, and me of course.

Chocolate Clusters with Dried Apricots.

Now I went shopping and bought all my weekly shopping at Morrisons but unfortunetly I couldn’t get the MSavers Apricots as they were all gone, however I improvised and bought MSavers Raisins instead, a favourite of my kiddies. For just 98p it is a massive bag with 500g inside.

Ingredients:

  • 50g of M Savers Milk Chocolate – 30p for 100g.
  • 1 x tablespoon of semi skimmed milk from fridge, just up to room temp
  • 50g of M Savers Cornflakes. 31p a box.
  • 50g of M Savers Raisins. -98p for 500g

Method:

  1. In a heatproof bowl over boiling water, melt the chocolate adding in the milk once completely melted. (note if the milk is too cold the chocolate will thicken and harden but it will still taste fine).
  2. Mix in the cornflakes and raisins and stir well to coat in chocolate.
  3. Divide the mixture into 16 bite-sized clumps and set on a baking-paper lined tray. Leave to stand in the fridge for one hour until set hard then enjoy.

The kids were chuffed to pieces with their cakes, and just an hour in the fridge they were ready to eat them! The raisins are bigger than your average raisin and the kids are really pleased with them.

There is also some other fabulous recipes on the SaversSummer website including one for Crunchy Cornflake Coated Turkey goujons with tomato dipping sauce, which would be great to do with some of the many leftover cornflakes.  Both recipes make great recipes to make with the kiddies.

If you don’t fancy getting messy with the kids in the kitchen, there is some great ideas on SaversSummer days in and out on a budget from Sarah Willingham .
