It has been a long couple of weeks, but we are finally officially in the country! I never imagined how physically hard the move would be, and as a result I have spent the last week trying to recover and catch up on sleep….but tomorrow we travel back to get the last load from our old house. It will be a bitter sweet moment, I love my house in Essex. I love the bathrooms and the spacious rooms, I love the new feeling it has despite being 5 years old. The smooth walls and lack of decorating since the builders slapped up a first coat of magnolia appeals to me, it is untainted. But our new house is older, much older. It has been decorated many times, and you can tell not much care has been put into it. There is odd colours of paint around and even badly cut wallpaper. But we are just renting so there is no point in changing anything like that when we might only be here for another 11 months. It was still a good move, I keep telling myself that location is everything. Our other house in Essex was in an awful location and this new one is much MUCH better. The peace and quiet and safety is much more important that smooth walls!

So the move coincided with the school holidays perfectly. But it also means a big upheaval for the kids. They have left their schools and got a new house. Not so much an issue with Marky and Brooke. But J is a bit different, with his ADHD and Autism he needs routine. The routine he knows and loves has gone, replaced by new surroundings of all kinds. As he doesn’t have a school to go to each day, his days have no great structure and his behaviour is getting worse as a result. I had dreams of trips to the park, farm and even swimming and cinema. But this week his behaviour has been so bad we have had to call off any treats to make him realise that bad behaviour will not be tolerated. Yes he has learning difficulties but he still needs to learn what is right and wrong and that is far more important than reading and writing in my opinion!! So today I am tough mum, and have a structured day in place complete with ‘lessons’ of colouring, story writing, maths, spelling and creative stuff such as cooking. Brooke is keen to get started, she sees it as ‘playing schools’. J is not so enthusiastic but I am sure he will get into it when we start creating some fun…hopefully!!!
