Lots of people ask me with great interest about my working from home arrangement. As a mum it works perfectly for me, and I enjoy not having to do the commute into work everyday. It seems alot of mums in the same position as me also want to work from home, so I thought I would give my views in case this is something that interests you.
There is loads of working from home opportunities available but how do you know what would work for you? I fell into working from home by accident. I was working for a company I have worked at for 4 years and last summer I just couldn’t afford to pay the £2000 fees needed to put all my children in childcare for summer, so I handed my notice in. However my boss being how wonderful she is, told me to take the summer off and come back in the new school year. It was that summer holiday that I realised how much I loved being at home. My boss then offered me to work from home and that was it, my working from home job was born. I do however, still have to put my son in nursery for 4 mornings a week while I get things done.
So what about if you were interested in working from home? Well there is loads of options, but I would say to stick to what you know and what you can do best. You could set up an online shop, there is loads of websites that take you through setting up your site, as either a start up or professional they help you get your site live. Or if you fancy less work but an actual job ready to go, you could search the net for jobsgopublic for current vacancies.
I love working from home and the freedom it gives me, but I will admit you do need some motivation to get things done. It is far too easy to have a little snooze instead of working!
I have been working from home for more than 15 years now and can only encourage people that value their freedom and hate the daily commuting through the rush hour traffic to seriously think about a change.
Ideally you should create an income from home doing what you are best at and what you love.
In other words turning a hobby into a profitable business.
This is actually quite simple and if you are keen and prepared to dig in you can create an income in a reasonably short time.
I converted my “worm composting hobby” (recycling kitchen- garden- and animal waste) into a full time income. Working in my garage and backyard. The start up costs where less than a meal at my favorite restaurant costs and it has developed into a sustainable business.
I am doing what I enjoy for profits and am my own boss 🙂
So think about the possibility to make money with one of your hobbies and give it a shot.
