When Wildsheep contacted me asking us to review one of their amber teething necklaces I was curious as to what I would get, and how it would actually work.

Wildsheep have a great website that really breaks down the reasons of why amber is so helpful to little ones who are teething.
Here is what I found out…
Amber is a natural resin which oozed out of a tree and eventually fossilised between recent times and a few hundred million years ago. The Baltic region is home to the largest known deposit of amber, where it was produced by extinct coniferous trees. Amber is not a stone, therefore it is light and warm to touch.

The warmth of the skin triggers the fossilised resin to release its natural oils. Wearing Baltic amber close to the skin is a traditional European remedy for baby teething. A natural analgesic, amber will help calm a baby without resorting to drugs. Used for centuries in Europe, amber’s natural anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties are perfect to soothe teething babies. Amber releases its therapeutic properties safely and naturally.

There is many other uses for amber necklaces too, which is why Wildsheep have created adults sized necklaces as well. Amber has anti inflammatory properties, and is also recommended for allergies and eczema.

Wildsheep sell various different lengths as well as different colours of necklaces. There is a vast range to pick from.

We received a 33cm Baltic Amber necklace in Baroque cognac. It has a nice deep dark colour. The catch is a screw system that is formed into one of the beads. Mark has given it a tug or two and its stayed in place, I am in no doubt that it wouldn’t break after the way Mark has handled it!
Each stone is individually knotted onto the cotton, meaning that if it was ever to snap, it would only be one bead that could come off. Amber is also completely safe to the human body, and due to it having a hole in too, it would not cause choking.

I would of loved to have used one when Mark was younger, as now he is older he is more aware of it being on and does give a tug occasionally, but if he was used to it being there all the time, I know he wouldn’t be phased by it. They are suitable for boys and girls from 3-4 months of age, however as teething can continue for 2 or more years, it is never too late for your child to start wearing this necklace. Mark is teething at the moment, so it will be great to see how the necklace affects him.
