Furby has made a come back this year, and considering I had one of the original ones which was lets face it, pretty lame….I was keen to see if there was any improvement to the new species.
My 8 year old daughter obviously doesn’t remember the original Furby, but she has had other interactive toys before so she was excited when I opened the box and it started talking, moving and even blinking at her. The first obvious change to Furby from the original was the eyes. The old eyes were plastic balls, but these new innovative Furbys have LCD screen eyes which move and respond.
The difference are amazing, this new Furby Interactive has come on leaps and bounds in terms of play factor. You get a leaflet included with some words to translate what your Furby is saying to you. But your Furby ‘grows’ with you, so how you treat it really affects how it’s personality turns out. We found this to be true as my daughter thought it was hilarious to pull it’s tail. In fact, she pulled it tail so much, it turned evil! The eyes went evil, and it sings songs with it’s ‘evil’ voice.
But the fun doesn’t stop there, in fact it just began for Brooke as you can download a free app on your iphone or ipad, which means you have a whole new dimension of play for your Furby. With the app you can feed your Furby, either food on it’s own, or even create the perfect burger. Each Furby has it’s own particular tastes, and it lets you know if it doesn’t like something! There is also a translator, where it will tell you what Furby is saying, there is also a dictionary so you can learn to speak Furby. This has been an absolute brilliant addition to Furby. If you don’t have an iPhone or iPad, you can still play with Furby and get lots of play out of it, but I think having the iPad or iPhone really brings the Furby to life. Here is Brooke reviewing her purple Furby!
So do I think Furby is worth the money? Well £50-£60 does sound a lot for a toy, but considering what you get for your money nowadays I do think it’s a fair price. If you have an iPhone or iPad that your child is keen to use too, then this would be a brilliant present as they will get loads of play out of it. However, make sure you have spare batteries around if you are buying one, it takes 4 x AA batteries which are not included in the box.
Wow that was unusual. I just wrote an very long comment but after I clicked
submit my comment didn’t show up. Grrrr… well I’m not writing all that over again.
Anyhow, just wanted to say superb blog!

First of all I would like to say fantastic blog! I had a quick
question that I’d like to ask if you don’t mind.
I was curious to know how you center yourself and clear your
thoughts before writing. I’ve had a tough time clearing my mind in getting my ideas out there. I truly do take pleasure in writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are wasted simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or tips? Thanks!
